She was born in Maharashtra’s Wardha district on 14th November 1948. She was raised in a cattle-grazing family. Sapkal was an unwanted child and she was referred to as Chindhi, which means a torn piece of cloth.
Sindhutai Sapkal Education:
Her father was keen on educating her against the wants of her mother. Her father Abhimanji used to send her to school under the excuse of cattle grazing. Because of poverty, She used the ‘leaf of Bharadi Tree’ as a slate. She could not buy a real slat due to her family’s financial condition.
She passed her fourth standard. But because of their weak financial condition, she had to leave school because of poverty, the responsibility of her family, and her early marriage.

Sindhutaii Sapkal Life After Her Husband:
Sindhutai became the mother of three sons by the age of 20. Her husband Shrihari abused her and beat her badly. He left Sindhutai to die at the age of twenty. At that time she was nine months pregnant. She gave birth to a baby girl in that difficult state. Sindhutai Sapkal daughter name is Mamata. She walked several kilometers away to her mother for help. But her mother refused to help her.

Later she found herself in Chikhaldara. Having lost hope, She started begging for food on railway platforms and streets. She realized that there were many children left by their parents in this process. She decided to adopt them as her own. She begged day and night even harder to feed even the larger family.
Later, She decided to become a mother to everyone who came across her as an orphan. Later she gave away her daughter to the Shrimant Dagdu Sheth Halwai trust of Pune. The reason is to remove the feeling of partiality between her child and the adopted children. She fought against the misuse of local women. Those women collected cow dung from the forest and landlords at her new house.
She also fought for the rehabilitation of 84 villages. In this matter, she met Chedilal Gupta. He was the Minister of Forests at that time. In the struggle to survive, she found herself in Chikhaldara.
In this 84 tribal villagers were abandoned due to a tiger preserve project. She decided to fight for the proper rehabilitation of the poor villagers. Chedilal Gupta, Minister of Forests acknowledged her effort. After that, he made appropriate arrangements for villagers.
Sindhutaii Sapkal Adopted Children:
Sindhutai devoted her whole life to orphans. That’s why she is also called “Mai” fondly. She has raised more than 1,050 orphaned children. Now Sindhutai has a grand family of 207 sons-in-law, 36 daughters-in-law, and over a thousand grandchildren. Many of Sindhutai’s adopted children are highly educated.
She has been honored with more than 273 awards for her exceptional work. She also used the award money to buy a home for her children. Over 300 children will reside in Sanmati Bal Niketan. It is being built in Manjari at Hadapsar, Pune.
