During a professional tour at the Manistee National Forest Festival On July 4, 1940, a faulty brace irritated Wadlow’s ankle and led to infection. Wadlow was treated with a blood transfusion and surgery, but due to an autoimmune disease, his condition worsened. And sadly on 15th July 1949, he died in his sleep.
